HEIDI NAAKKA, Dance Artist

Showtime 28.9. 5 PM, 6:30 PM and 8 PM (GMT+3)

As part of the Tanssin Aika festival, The Hot Box will present a very special performance by dance artist Heidi Naakka. Over the course of a single day, Naakka and her special guests will take over the box for a series of three broadcasts. She will be joined by top-flight dance artists Jyrki Karttunen, Antti Lahti and Jenni-Elina von Bagh. The soundworld for these improvised encounters will be provided by the distinguished composer and vibraphonist Arttu Takalo.

Heidi Naakka graduated as a dance teacher from the Turku Arts Academy and as a dance from Stockhom’s Danhögskolan in spring of 2002. After graduation, Heidi has worked as a freelance artist until she joined Helsinki Dance Company, the dance group of the Helsinki City Theater, in the fall of 2006. Over the last 15 years, Heidi has danced in pieces by such influential choreographers as Sasha Pepeljajev, Josef Fruzeck and Linda Kapatanea, Kenneth Kvarnström, Ervi Siren, Eeva Muilu and Jyrki Karttunen.

Heidi’s interest in the possibilities of movement and the camera was born in summer 2018 during the making of the dance film Ha Ha Ha, in which Heidi had the lead role. The film was directed by Samuli Valkama and its choreography was made by Jyrki Karttunen. It was produced by Sons of Lumière.

Heidi is also a certified instructor in the TRE method, an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma.
